Wiki Loves Monuments
Wiki Loves Monuments 2011 is a public photography contest focused on monuments and organized by Wikimedia Chapters. Wikimedia Foundation, Inc. is the entity that supports Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. In 2010 the contest was first organized in the Netherlands, and in 2011 it will be organized in several European countries.
Cultural heritage is an important part of the knowledge that Wikipedia collects and distributes. Everyone may contribute with images and articles. An image is worth a thousand words, in all languages.
For that reason, everyone is invited to upload images of monuments under a free license for use in the different Wikipedias. The idea of this project is to get a global and unique vision of the cultural heritage of each country.
The basic rules for this contest are as follows:
- The contest will run from September 1 to September 30, 2011.
- The images must be taken and uploaded by the participants.
- The images must be released under a free license.
- The images must be uploaded with the monuments’ ID number.
There are several prizes and categories, and the organization will contact all the winners. Also, the best 10 images will be selected and sent to the next stage of the contest, where winners will be selected at the European level.
